Hospital Services Manager | CVT | Patient Advocate & Team Leader
At Boston West Veterinary Emergency & Specialty, we’re proud to recognize the incredible growth and leadership within our team. Today, we’re excited to spotlight someone who has not only helped shape our hospital with her expertise and compassion but is also stepping into a new leadership role: Joelle Riley, CVT, our newly promoted Hospital Services Manager.
From Technician to Trusted Leader
Joelle first joined Boston West in 2016 and quickly became known not only for her technical expertise, but also for her calm, compassionate leadership. Over the years, she has contributed her skills across the emergency room, ICU, operating rooms, and internal medicine, always keeping patient advocacy at the center of her work. Joelle’s dedication and steady presence have helped shape Boston West into the supportive, family-like environment it is today.
Her journey in veterinary medicine began long before Boston West, rooted in a lifelong love for animals and a personal commitment to make a difference. After earning her CVT in 2017, Joelle quickly distinguished herself not only in her clinical skills but also in her ability to support and mentor others.
“The one-on-one nursing care is what I love most, being part of a patient’s healing journey and helping them get back home to the family that loves them.” – Joelle
Stepping Into a Bigger Role
As Hospital Services Manager, Joelle’s impact now extends across every corner of the hospital. In this new role, she will:
Oversee hospital operations and ensure smooth patient and client flow.
Support and develop doctors, technicians, and client care staff.
Uphold compliance with procedures and regulations.
Lead recruitment, onboarding, and training initiatives.
Partner with hospital leadership on scheduling, financial oversight, and strategic growth planning.
Joelle has already played a key role in initiatives like coordinating student internship programs and doctor scheduling, and her ability to bridge teams has made her a natural fit for this expanded leadership position.
“I love the teamwork here at Boston West. The trust between the staff and the support I'm given as a leader. I’m excited to continue building a strong, inclusive, and collaborative culture.” – Joelle
Meet Mia Mae: The OG Boston West Pup
No story about Joelle would be complete without mentioning her sidekick, Mia Mae. Rescued after a serious injury, Mia has been by Joelle’s side for nearly eight years—and is now part of Boston West’s training team, helping new assistants and techs practice their skills. She’s also a fan favorite on our social media pages, where she occasionally makes queen-approved appearances.
A Calm & Patient Approach
When working with anxious or fearful pets, Joelle believes in leading with patience and trust.
“I take my time and earn their trust—never rush, never intimidate. Every pet deserves to feel safe.”
Her advice to pet parents? “If something seems off, trust your gut. Small changes can be big clues, and we’re always happy to help.”
Life Beyond the Hospital
Outside of Boston West, Joelle enjoys Pilates, hiking, and traveling. She’s passionate about growing as a leader and continuing to nurture the culture that makes Boston West such a special place for patients, clients, and staff alike.
Why We’re Grateful for Joelle
From her early days as a technician to her new role as Hospital Services Manager, Joelle Riley has always embodied what makes Boston West strong: compassion, collaboration, and clinical excellence. Whether she’s mentoring a new technician, supporting a client, or driving hospital operations forward, Joelle makes a lasting impact.
And if you see Mia Mae around the hospital? Don’t forget to give her a well-earned belly rub!
